to start off the day, at 10:15 we had a class of 24 grade 2's come in, i was told to escort them through the bug lab, hand them coats and clipboards ( with worksheets attached ) and answer any questions, to the best of my knowledge. after they left, a young girl and her grandfather came in for a bit. after they left, i ran to the market to pick up an orange, an apple, a banana, and a chunk of lettuce to feed the bugs, we then went over my safety sheet ( which was faxed BTW ! ) and cut up the food to drop into the tanks. each bug got 1 of each in small portions. after that i was told to dust the tanks, and shine them up. after doing that for an hour, and after my break, i sat at the computer to do some typing work. after that i folded letters to be mailed out, and flipped the lids on the cages for the bugs over night. then it was time for cash out, where i counted money, and locked up the museum.
first week at The Bug Lab:
Friday was not all that busy in the bug lab. i cleaned windows, washed floors and sweeped. at the beginning of the day Jayme and i went to pick sticks and plants for the insects ( thorny devils, stick bugs and leaf bugs) which are surprisingly really prickly. after cutting them and placing them in the cages we had a couple and their daughter come in. i let her hold the stick bug. after lunch, i cleaned the cages and dusted. the Jenny the manager came in.. the BIG boss. she got me to help her arrange the gift shop better and place all the jewlerly in new boxes. then i flipped the lids, did cash out ( as always ) shut off the lights ( which was new to me ) and signed out.
The Bug Lab #1:
on Wednesday at the bug lab we have 2 classes come in! the first class who arrived at 10:30 had 42 kids in it ! we had to split them up because it would have been to busy otherwise.. that rotation worked very well.. after making a starbuvks run i came back to the lab to find out that we had another class coming in at 1:30 ! that 62 kids in a day we had there ! its safe to say that my feet hurt after the day was done. when that class left i cleaned outside windows, swept floors and cleaned the bathrooms. a also ( unfortunatly ) had the duty f taking all the food out of the cages and replacing it, and taking the dead stick bugs out of their cage, because they dont preserve well as jamie says, after all was said and done.. it was a long day
The Bug Lab #2:
Fridays at the bug lab arnt usually busy days because people go away, just get off work and usually we just spend the day puttering and cleaning. early in the morning we had a preschool class come in but other then that it was time to clean the giftshop.. re organize, putter and price. after getting bored of that and making ANOTHER starbucks run ( NOTE: never work near a starbucks !!! ) i traced on letters ( The Bug Lab ) out front and got to pain them on.. yes, i said paint.. you walk by there OH YEAH BABY! i did that. anyways.. after trying to get the computer to turn on, and internet to work i managed to do some research on a Colbalt Blue spider which had been donated earlier in the day, by a man who is " doin the military thing "
he says hes gone for 5 years.. and if shes still there when he gets back he'll come visit her.. so we got her a nice habitat set up in the butterfly cages ( they all died ) and supposedly.. those spiders are considered dangerous and VERY agressive ( RE: NOTE: never own a turantula!! } after that i closed up shop, turned lights out and signed my hours sheet
NOTE: my LAST day at the bug lab will be this COMING saturday. i have to make up hours i have missed and get all my sheets signed and handed in. i am volunteering on Saturday May 30th 10-5
